Yang Sheng Fa

Yang Sheng Fa - The Art of Health PreservationYang Sheng Fa – The Art of Health Preservation.
Translated roughly as ‘life nourishing principles’, Yang Sheng Fa is the art of enabling self-cultivation by taking our health into our own hands, and acting to prevent illness and preserve optimum well-being. It is a lesser known, but highly important concept in Chinese medicine, and considered a philosophy of life. Yang Sheng Fa promotes methods of self-healing and encourages a positive state of mind, ultimately leading to the preservation of one’s health, well-being, and longevity.

The art of Yang Sheng Fa is less about teachings, and more about principles. There are many aspects of Chinese medicine, and Yang Sheng Fa includes the branches that can be used by yourself. These include the following:

  • Food Therapy / Dietary Improvements
  • Herbal Supplementation
  • Acupressure / Self Massage (TuiNa)
  • Energy / Breathing Exercises, such as Qi Gong
  • Physical Exercise, such as Dao Yin (Leading and Guiding Exercises)

Why is Yang Sheng Fa important?
The preservation of health, rather than the treatment of disease, is a fundamental concept of traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice. This differs vastly to the focus of Western medicine, which puts emphasis on disease, illness, and symptom management. In ancient China, a doctor’s role was not to treat the sick but to maintain health – After all, prevention is better than cure, and good health is easier to maintain than it is to acquire!

Not only is Yang Sheng Fa useful to preserve health and longevity, the techniques and principles can be useful in treating conditions and diseases, and will particularly increase the effectiveness of other treatments such as acupuncture and herbal medicine. Should you wish to know more, please feel free to ask your practitioner as they will only be more than happy to help meet your needs.

Anybody – of any age, any culture, any health, can practice the art of Yang Sheng to whatever extent they wish. Feel free to contact us should you want to book an appointment, or require anymore information.
